With this article, I hope to bring some calmness and confidence during these surreal and challenging times.
First off, the coronavirus is a virus that produces flu-like symptoms, and unless you are immunocompromised or are very health compromised, you will likely only experience a mild “flu”. You will want to take care of yourself like any flu, but with the added knowledge that you must must must quarantine. If you are in poor health, there are actions you can take (listed below).
The social distancing and quarantining is mainly so this virus does not spread so fast that our hospitals can’t handle the severe cases that have developed into pneumonia (or other severe respiratory infections).
Without going into all the details and science that is coming out, I’d like to focus on how to boost your immune system and utilize choice remedies for a viral disease. This will also be helpful for any cold/flu!
Recommendations
1. Here’s a recipe to activate your immune system with the use of 3 simple ingredients:
Raw Honey, Cinnamon, & Turmeric.
Remove half the contents from a jar of honey. Add to the jar equal parts cinnamon and turmeric. (i.e. 2 oz. honey + 1 oz. cinnamon + 1 oz. turmeric) Mix thoroughly to form a paste. Dosage is one teaspoon of the paste daily. Honey possesses a natural life-force that helps in transferring the vitality of other ingredients; plus, it does not spoil. Cinnamon contains a powerful group of antioxidants with turmeric possessing its’ own dynamic family of nutrients. The combination creates a complete range of antioxidants.

2. Liposomal Vitamin C – 2,000 mg daily. Or Buffered Vitamin C if you can’t get liposomal.
3. L-lysine
4. Zinc lozenges (when you are sick)- 11mg per day (20mg for elderly with likely poor zinc absorption). Zinc lozenges can exceed the tolerable limit of zinc, so should only be taken for a week as they can inhibit copper absorption. You can take 11 mg of zinc per day prior to getting sick, but consider not continuing this for long.
5. Anti-viral herbs to consider (but don’t go crazy- maybe have one on hand)- Cat’s Claw, Olive leaf, Garlic (add lots into your food, especially if only just barely cooked- the more raw, the better).
6. Get out in the sun! And also take Vitamin D3 with K2 – 2,000 IU daily, especially if you know you’re below 40 ng/mL on your blood test. Even if you get sick, being outside is one of the best things you can do for yourself (according to many studies), not just for the sun exposure, but for the fresh air. Start with small doses of sun exposure to build up a “tan”- it’s the sunburn that we want to avoid. The darker skin you have, the more sun you need.
7. Use coconut oil liberally in cooking or take 3 Tbs daily.
8. Drink small sips of water throughout the day if you are sick. This has been shown to help prevent the virus from not getting into your airways/lungs.
9. HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES: Homeopathy has a very long history of successfully treating viral infections and flu epidemics (1918). I’m going to speak about the most readily available remedies for this epidemic:
At the first sign of any cold symptoms Aconitum 200C + Bryonia 200C have shown to be very efficient in helping to stimulate the immune system. Take 2-4 pellets of each remedy at the first sign of cold. Homeopaths in China are reporting that Gelsemium 30c or 200c has been their first choice in matching the symptoms of COVID-19. It is a remedy that has slow manifestation of symptoms, fatigue, weakness during fever, heavy eyelids, pain in the limbs and chills up and down the spine. Eupatorium perfoliatum 30C they say has also shown to be effective when there is more bone pain and less heaviness. Oscillococinum is also a remedy for “flu-like” symptoms and may be very helpful for coronavirus infections. There can also be violent, exhausting cough with much mucus. Other remedies for chest issues with wheezing, are Kali Carbonicum 200C and Arsenicum album 6C or 30C. These 2 remedies will be important for pneumonia and if the illness has gone to your chest. This is a small sample of remedies used for colds and flus. For other remedies, please look at the specific symptoms for each remedy in Homeopathic Resources.
General guidelines on how to use homeopathic remedies for acute illness
- 2-4 pellets is 1 dose. Take 3 doses of a 30c or 200c remedy per day when experiencing symptoms. You can also take a remedy every 30 minutes for the first 4 doses if symptoms are extreme, and then back off to 1-3 times per day.
- When your symptoms subside, stop the remedy or back off to once per day until symptoms are mainly gone.
- A remedy that is correct for an acute illness will likely cause a fever (if you don’t have one) or increase your fever slightly, or make you want to sleep- both outcomes are very good and you should start to feel better soon after.
- If the remedy does not act in 4 doses, and you are not in a severe condition, consider contacting a Homeopath.
- If your illness becomes severe, please get to a hospital, or call your health professional.
- I’m not a fan of blending remedies while treating chronic conditions, but if you don’t know which remedy to choose in this situation, you may take multiple remedies at the same time. If you have some knowledge of homeopathy, try the remedy that fits your symptoms best, and if it doesn’t act for 4 doses, try the next best one.
- Do not take aspirin or acetaminophen for a fever! Fever in the initial stage of illness is important to fight off the pathogen.
I am available for Acute Homeopathic/Supplement Consults. Call 801-906-3222 or book a 30 min consult here. For now, I am offering a sliding scale ($30-$60) to those in need.
This is a lot of info, and if it’s overwhelming, try to focus on just 3 recommendations. If you get sick and are concerned it may become severe, I am available for acute care consultations.
If you are immunocompromised or are already in poor health, please try to stay away from others and get outside as much as you can. Consider taking Thymuline 9c (used in flu season) 1 time per week as a preventative measure.
I have a dispensary if you’d like to easily purchase supplements online (if they have them in stock!). You get 20% off the retail price- click below to order.
Stay safe out there, and use this time to check in with yourself, with your life. Spend some quality time with your family, and don’t feel guilty about practicing extreme self-care.
Sending lots of love to you all,
